Authentic LotR Atmosphere with Balanced Gameplay
The mix of adventure and RPG gameplay is well-balanced, the difficulty level is spot on, and The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age exudes an authentic LotR vibe with its great graphics, voice-overs, sound effects, and cutscenes. (Score 81)

Original team and new skills in familiar LOTR setting
The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age is a very original game. It's a game set in the Lord of the Rings universe, but you don't play with the well-known characters like Aragorn and Legolas (although you do encounter Gandalf at one point). Instead, you play with a different team of inhabitants of Middle-earth, including an elf and a dwarf. The team roughly follows the path of the Fellowship, so you do get to see the familiar locations from the movies. The skills are enjoyable as well, you keep learning more of them and they become increasingly useful and impressive. The Evil Mode is also a very fun addition: you can unlock extra weapons by playing as the villains.

Challenging yet very enjoyable turn-based RPG game.
Really fun game. This is a true turn-based RPG. Beautiful story that kept me engaged for at least 40 hours. Even if you're not into The Lord of the Rings, this game is definitely worth it. The difficulty level is very high, but with the many characters and different skills, you'll figure it out eventually. A top game for me!

Beautiful graphics and authentic music, but sometimes too many enemies
I think The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age is a great game. The attacks look good, and the graphics are very nice. The sound is cool too; you can hear exactly whether someone is walking on sand or stone, and the music is taken from the films, so that's definitely a plus. The Evil Mode is also a cool mini-game.
One downside is that sometimes there are too many enemies. In Helms Deep, I really got fed up with the enemies that just kept coming and coming!

I give it a nine out of ten.

Disappointing Turn-Based Combat System in The Third Age
I don't really enjoy The Third Age, mainly due to the "new" turn-based combat system. I was hoping the combat system would be the same as in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. If you liked Final Fantasy for the Playstation One, then you might enjoy this as well, I think.

Dull and lacking action compared to other LOTR games
Actually, I was quite disappointed by the game, especially because it resembled more of a strategic game and therefore bears no resemblance to the other 2 games of The Lord of the Rings where you could hack away with your sword and the action was abundant. The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age is deadly dull, can't put it any other way. My advice???? DO NOT BUY!!!!

Fun game, but way too short!
I really think The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age is such a cool game. You play with Berethor, Idrial, Morwen, Elegast, and someone else whose name I momentarily forgot.
Once you reach the Eye, the fun is over because you've already finished it (very disappointing when that happens, as it's way too short!)

Fun and original RPG with turn-based battles
It's a fun and original RPG, because you take turns attacking, you have plenty of time to think of your next move. What I found a bit disappointing is that some things don't quite match up with the books/movies. Take for example the battle with the Balrog where you have to fight alongside Gandalf against the Balrog. In reality, that bridge is not wider than one and a half meters and the rest of the companions were just watching as Gandalf fell. But all in all, The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age is simply a fun game to finish in a few days.

Long-lasting gaming fun with various characters
It's definitely a cool game because you won't finish it in just 1 day. I now have everyone: Berethor, Idrial, Hadhod, Elegost, Morwen, and 2 more whose names I can't remember right now. In The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age

Tips and secrets, cheats and codes

12 tips: 11 Secrets - 1 Personal tip

Secrets:
How to make Evil Mode easier in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age?
MarioCube
9 jaar
If you're having trouble completing Evil Mode in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, save the game in Eregion, finish the campaign, and then start Evil Mode. Evil Mode will be much easier now.

Secrets:
How does the Elf Medicine work better with Idrial compared to other characters?
MarioCube
9 jaar
When you use an Elf Medicine with Idrial, your health will be completely restored. For all other characters, your health will only be restored halfway.
Of course, it's even smarter to use 'Power of the Valar' as Idrial; then all your action points will also be restored.

Secrets:
How can Morwen obtain good axes for dealing a lot of damage?
MarioCube
9 jaar
Use 'Steal Item' from Morwen on the Witch King in the Pelennor Fields of The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. You will receive 'the Third Age Rohirric Silver Battle Axe'. These are excellent axes for Morwen, allowing her to inflict a lot of damage!
Read more tips and secrets.

Secrets:
How can I deal more damage to strong opponents in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age?
MarioCube
9 jaar
Having trouble defeating Trolls or other heavily armored creatures in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age? Try using the item 'Morgul Decay'. This will make all the opponent's armor disappear, allowing you to quickly eliminate them with powerful attacks like Berethor's Ecthelion Wrath or Eoden's Rohirrim Rage.

Secrets:
How can you become almost invincible in Helms Deep?
MarioCube
9 jaar
This is a tip to become (almost) invincible in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. It's a great way to get through the terribly difficult Helms Deep quite easily. The only way it can fail is if Idrial can no longer use this attack due to, for example, being hit by a Silenced Arrow from an Uruk-Hai, or being silenced by Grima Wormtong.

First of all, make sure Idrial knows 'Aura of the Valar'.
As her fifth Spirit Attack, Idrial learns the very strong attack Aura of the Valar. When she uses this on a teammate or herself, they are automatically revived if they are killed. Further explanation: Let's say Berethor has been given Aura of the Valar by Idrial. At some point, Berethor is killed by (for example) a goblin. Thanks to Aura of the Valar, he immediately comes back to life, with full HP and AP, and it's his turn right away.
In tough battles, like Helms Deep, it's wise to first 'bless' herself, then the other teammates with this attack. If someone dies, they will be revived and it will be their turn immediately. If you make sure each teammate has 'Aura of the Valar', you can almost never lose.

Secrets:
What is Evil Mode in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age and how do you unlock it?
MarioCube
9 jaar
Evil Mode is an option to replay certain battles you've done with your heroes, but this time facing off against the forces of evil. Here, you can battle with orcs and goblins, as well as Nazguls and even the Balrog. To unlock Evil Mode, you need to complete each part of the game. This happens step by step. Every time you finish a part of the game with your heroes (for example, West-Moria), you unlock that same part in Evil Mode of The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age.

Secrets:
What's the quickest way to learn specific attacks?
MarioCube
9 jaar
First of all, make sure that Idrial has Drain Inspiration or Morwen has Steal Action. These attacks can steal Action Points from the opponents.
Some opponents only have spirit attacks, like the Moria Goblin Shadow Chieftains in Moria. Once it's Idrial's turn, she should use Drain Inspiration on this Chieftain (or Morwen's Steal Action). When all the Action Points of this monster have been taken away, it can no longer attack and will keep 'skipping' its turn. This ensures that it's only your turn! Now, only use attacks that don't cause damage, such as Berethor's Leadership attacks, Idrial's Spirit attacks, Hadhod's Spirit attacks, Eoden's Spirit attacks, Morwen's Steal attacks, or Morwen's Battle Haste. You can keep using these attacks and will never be attacked. Unfortunately, you might run out of action points from time to time... Use Idrial's Drain Inspiration, Morwen's Steal Action, Berethor's Fellowship Grace, or simply a Lembas Item as a solution for this. In a short time, you will have very strong attacks with which you can defeat the stronger monsters.
Good luck, warriors!

Secrets:
How can I obtain a powerful sword for Berethor in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age?
MarioCube
9 jaar
To start the game off strong with a powerful sword for Berethor (the first character you begin with), play Evil Mode Osgiliath in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age and save it on a previous game or a new game. By doing this, you will acquire the sword Isildur, which has a damage class of 200+. At the beginning of the game, you can deal at least 2,000 damage on a regular hit with this weapon.

Secrets:
How can I quickly learn how to attack in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age?
MarioCube
9 jaar
Do you want to quickly learn an attack in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age? Then go to a level that you have already played, and engage in all the battles you can. This way, you will unlock attacks quickly!
For example, if you want to learn Orc Bane with Berethor, go to a previous level and use 'Sword Craft' for all your attacks.
Good luck!

Secrets:
Why is it important to keep giving it your all in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age missions?
MarioCube
9 jaar
Put your best effort into completing all missions, because that's how you unlock videos from The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. Some videos are taken straight from the movie, so it's an extra treat! Plus, if you don't do your missions well in Osgiliath, you'll end up losing Idrial in the end!

Secrets:
How can I teach my characters unique attacks with Light Stone and Shadow Stone in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age?
MarioCube
9 jaar
Once you have obtained both a Light Stone and a Shadow Stone in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, you can give them to one of your characters to learn certain unique attacks. After they have learned the attack, you can transfer the stone to another character, allowing everyone to learn those attacks. It's very convenient and nice that you can use it as often as you like!

Personal tip:
Why is it better not to use your perfect mode in tough battles in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age?
BrianW
223
22 jaar
When you're nearing the end of The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age and you've mostly learned all the passive skills, make sure not to use your perfect mode in tough battles. This way, some of your characters will definitely land a critical hit. In the end, this will pay off more than using your perfect mode.
