Innovative Mario Platformer with New Land and Enemies
After the brilliant Super Mario 64, it was time for the Gamecube to have its very own Mario platformer. Nintendo wouldn't be Nintendo if they didn't come up with something new for their biggest money maker. This time, Mario finds himself in a whole new land, facing new enemies, and making new friends.

Enhanced Levels and Innovative Gameplay with Flood in Super Mario Sunshine
After Super Mario 64, here comes its successor: Super Mario Sunshine! I couldn't get enough of Mario 64 myself, and despite the 120 stars to be found and the extensive levels, I managed to finish it quite quickly (and temporarily neglected my personal life). So, this game was more than welcome!
Of course, there have been some changes. Positive changes! The levels are even more extensive, the `stars` from Mario 64 have been replaced by `shines`, and the best part of all: you have Flood to assist you! Flood has never appeared in games before, so here's a brief explanation: Flood is a device that sprays water, which you can use for various purposes (from cleaning to acting as a hovercraft). And while Yoshi had a minor role in the previous game, here you can once again hop on his back!
Just like in Mario 64, there is a lot of variety in the game. You visit different locations, although everything is a bit more cheerful than its predecessor (hence probably the `sunshine`).
Personally, I really enjoyed this game, especially because I had already completed Mario 64 a while back (even though I collected all the stars three times, everything gets boring at some point), and this brought something new with Mario in the lead role! I highly recommend this game, if only because our original Nintendo hero takes the lead.

Challenging and Engaging: A Typical Mario Adventure
The game Super Mario Sunshine is a lot of fun, but sometimes it can be a bit difficult. The missions are enjoyable and never the same. The storyline keeps you engaged, and before you know it, you're hooked and it's over quite quickly!
It's a typical Mario game that can drive you crazy at times. Tasks that seem impossible to you, but when you start thinking more logically, suddenly you manage to do it! Great game, highly recommended for everyone!

Colorful and original with challenging mini games
Such a cool game! Obviously very colorful, and the FLUDD is a really original concept. Sometimes the mini games can be quite annoying if you fail after 10 tries, but once you finally beat it and unlock a new level, you just can't stop playing. Yoshi is a must-have character, you can even spray juice from his mouth! Very fun and challenging. I rate it 9.7.

Beautiful 3D graphics and fun use of Yoshi in Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Sunshine is a super fun game! It looks beautiful in 3D, and Delfino Island is very pretty. Yoshi is also very enjoyable.
Save Delfino Island with FLUDD and you'll still have a great holiday.

Most Original Mario Game
Super Mario Sunshine is in my opinion one of the most original Mario games ever, especially due to the addition of the FLUDD pack. This jetpack provides a completely different style of platforming and battles with enemies.

The levels have a very enjoyable and warm atmosphere. Many people say that because of the beach theme, the levels are somewhat less varied, but I definitely disagree. This is a must-have for the GameCube.

Unique, summery Mario game guarantees fun!
Super Mario Sunshine sets itself apart from other 3D Mario games with its theme: sun and water! Mario expects to enjoy a sunny vacation on Isle Delfino, but is suspected of graffitiing the island. As punishment, he must clean up the mess. But where is Peach, and who is behind the graffiti?

You quickly get acquainted with F.L.U.D.D., a talking water pump. You strap it on your back to spray water. But that's not all, you can also use it to hover! This leads to fantastic platform action!

All levels are themed around sun and water, yet they are incredibly diverse! Very impressive! In each level, you collect Shine Sprites, spread out in a mission-based structure across the levels. Often, there are missions that challenge your platforming skills without F.L.U.D.D.! These can be quite tricky. Mario's moves are still extensive without F.L.U.D.D., but they work smoothly and seamlessly. The only downside, in my opinion, is the camera, which can be a bit finicky at times.

The game is full of fun surprises, varied gameplay, and cool environments. The overall atmosphere is perfect for a playthrough in the summer. The beautiful graphics and delightful summery soundtrack guarantee a cheerful time.

The best 3D Mario game!
"Super Mario Sunshine" is an iconic platform adventure that takes Mario to the tropical Isle Delfino.

The graphical presentation of "Super Mario Sunshine" is bright and vibrant. Isle Delfino is beautifully designed with colorful environments, ranging from sunny beaches to lively towns. The visual style accentuates the holiday atmosphere and adds a unique aesthetic to the Mario series.

The gameplay is based on the familiar Mario mechanics, but "Super Mario Sunshine" introduces the FLUDD (Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device), a water pump that Mario uses to solve puzzles and combat enemies. The controls are smooth and responsive, allowing Mario's dynamic movements to shine.

The use of the FLUDD adds a new element to the gameplay. It enables players to spray water, jump high with the Rocket Nozzle, move quickly forward with the Turbo Nozzle, and even climb walls. This diversity of abilities keeps the gameplay fresh and challenging.

Isle Delfino is divided into different worlds, each with a set of levels and unique challenges. From the sunny Bianco Hills to the mysterious Noki Bay, each location has its own character and theme. The variety of environments keeps the gameplay diverse and engaging.

The game's mission structure requires players to collect Shine Sprites by completing specific tasks. These range from solving puzzles to defeating bosses. The variety of missions provides a constant stream of new challenges.

The music of "Super Mario Sunshine" is lively and fits well with the cheerful atmosphere of the game. The sound effects, from Mario's jumps to the spraying sounds of the FLUDD, are iconic and contribute to the overall audio experience.

The story of the game revolves around Mario's efforts to clean up Isle Delfino and clear the reputation of his doppelganger, Shadow Mario. While the story is not deep, the charm of the characters and the humor of the situations add a lot to the overall experience.

"Super Mario Sunshine" is a classic in the Mario series and a highlight for platform games. With its innovative FLUDD mechanics, beautiful environments, and the unmistakable charm of Mario and his friends, the game remains beloved by fans of the genre. It is a must-play for every GameCube owner and a lasting reminder of Nintendo's creative genius.

Cheerful atmosphere and unique gameplay with Fludd and Yoshi
This is truly an amazing game. It has a cheerful atmosphere, which fits perfectly with Mario. And you can once again jump on Yoshi's back, which is also very nice! And Fludd is there, which is new. The story is fun too, having to clean up the city while finding the real culprit. Only the beginning is a bit messy and it seems quite similar to Mario 64 (same style). It is the successor to Super Mario 64, and can it surpass its predecessor? I say yes!

Cute characters and FLUDD, but doesn't quite match up to Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine is a cool game but unfortunately... Nothing can compare to Super Mario 64 on the N64. However, I do think the characters on Delfino Island are awesome and FLUDD is even better. It can be a bit annoying when he comments while you're in the middle of a fight. Currently, I'm stuck with my 50 shines, unfortunately.

Top game
In my opinion, Super Mario Sunshine is one of the best 3D platformers ever made! The gameplay feels very tight and responsive, the game does exactly what you want, and everything runs smoothly. All levels are in the same theme, vacation, but that doesn't take away from the fact that they are all very original. The only downside to this Mario game, in my opinion, is the number of shines that need to be collected by gathering the blue coins, as there is no way to know which ones you already have and which ones you still need.

Fun cleaning action with Fludd in beautiful 3D worlds
I think it's an incredibly super fun game! The segments with Fludd are really enjoyable, the levels look beautiful in 3D, the difficulty level is just right, and the most fun part for me is cleaning. I rate Super Mario Sunshine a 9.2.

Super Mario Sunshine: Fresh breeze, but lacks innovation
Super Mario Sunshine... opinions are a bit divided on this game... some consider it the successor to `Super Mario 64`, while others, referring to this successor as "Mario 128" for years, prefer to hand it over to the upcoming Wii title `Super Mario Galaxy`... I share the latter opinion. I find Super Mario Sunshine to be a very fresh new breeze in Mario history, but despite the, in my opinion, unnecessary water sprayer FLUDD, I feel like I'm playing an extension of Super Mario 64. Nothing wrong with that, of course, since that game more or less invented 3D platforming... but come on Nintendo! We're so many years ahead now, and a bit more innovation would have been welcome. I definitely had a lot of fun with this game, especially with the return of Yoshi as a playable character. The levels felt familiar, but I missed some of the recognizable enemies and items from the earlier installments. Super Mario Sunshine has become a very enjoyable (if not the most enjoyable) platformer for the NGC, but despite that, I don't think it reaches the level of innovation set by `Super Mario 64`.

Sunny and Cozy Action in Super Mario Sunshine
I've had this game for a long time and it was really, really great to play this game. Not so much for the story, but for that fun cozy action that comes with it. Often in games, everything looks very sad, but in this game, the sun is always shining. The action that happens can be quite challenging but also very enjoyable for children. This is truly a game that you must have played with a GameCube, as it is really a highlight of it. It looks beautiful and is not violent like other games!

Super Mario Sunshine: Cleaning Action on Delfino Island with Flood
After finishing its predecessor: Supermario 64, I was ready for a new game! That game was Super Mario Sunshine! Luckily, I already had a GameCube so I didn't have to buy one first! But back to the game, this is definitely a great game! You have to clean up Delfino Island from dirty mess together with Flood! For those who don't know yet: Flood is a device that can spray water and helps out. You can use that water sprayer as a water cannon and as a kind of Jet pack! The game has a nice story and the graphics are certainly not bad! So if you're looking for a new game: Super Mario Sunshine! My opinion: If you're looking for a fun game with our trusted friend Mario, then this is the one for you! A game with beautiful graphics that you won't get tired of quickly and is definitely worth its price! My rating: 9.5

Hours of Fun on Delfino Island
A game like games should be. I know, it's not perfect graphically and there are a whole bunch of strange glitches (I once got catapulted INTO a tree and couldn't get out, and at one point could swim in the ground), but this game offers so much more. If you don't have patience, then don't buy this game. I've had it for years and finding all the blue coins in the game is nearly impossible! But that's what makes it fun. You can really spend hours on Delfino Island without getting bored. Just walking around, just for fun. When I finally defeated the final boss (which is Bowser again, this time he's just chilling in his bath), I was a bit sad that the adventure was over, but nothing to be done about it! If you're a fan of action, buy Super Mario Sunshine! If you prefer to keep it tame, just don't buy a GameCube but a book! In summary, this game is a GameCube classic that should definitely not be missing from your collection. And look at that price! You can't go wrong, a steal!

Original Mario Game!
Super Mario Sunshine is a very original Mario game and a sequel to Mario 64. What I mean by original, is mainly the location. It takes place on Delfino Island, a tropical island.

The game is very open-world, even more so than, for example, Mario 64. So you can do a lot of things at your own pace. The storyline is also very original and Bowser Jr. gets a big role for the first time.

Also new is your new friend, the FLUDD pack. FLUDD is a water tank that you can use to temporarily fly, shoot yourself up, and sprint super fast over water.

The game is full of different original levels, enemies, boss fights, and blue coins to collect. In Super Mario Sunshine, you also collect Shines instead of stars. The controls are almost perfect for the GameCube, and the graphics look very beautiful and cheerful.

Super Mario Sunshine is definitely worth a try!

Great start but disappointing ending
When I was younger, I used to play `Super Mario 64` for days on end. I think/thought this was the best game EVER! Super Mario 64 just has everything a good game should have, and the most positive thing was that even after you completed the game, you were still addicted to trying to collect all 120 stars. Something not many other games have. So when `Super Mario Sunshine` (the sequel to `Super Mario 64`) was released, I couldn't wait to try it out. I bought it and popped it into my GameCube with mixed feelings. It didn't disappoint at all in the beginning! The graphics are just... `Mario-like` (if that's even a word). I had a lot of fun getting the first 30 shines. I then started to wonder if I should fight against Junior Bowser (the villain in the story) at some point. In Super Mario 64, you had to do that several times, right?
With that feeling in the back of my mind, I kept playing until I had about 70 shines. Everything was going well: the game wasn't too difficult, but you also couldn't just breeze through it. Especially the parts where FLUDD is taken away and you have to jump your way to the end of a platform are very fun and addictive.
Then, finally, I could fight the final boss! I vividly remembered doing this thousands of times in Super Mario 64, frustrating but addictive!
I made my first attempt to defeat the final boss and... I did it on the first try!?! The biggest downside of the game is that the final boss is WAY too simple!
After this, I expected to keep playing well until I reached all 120 shines... but this was also disappointing! Unlike its predecessor, `Super Mario Sunshine` is much less addictive when it comes to collecting all 120 stars/shines.
So, Super Mario Sunshine is a great game with beautiful graphics and sounds, but once you defeat the final boss, it lacks a certain... well... I'm not sure. It's missing something, whether it's that the goal isn't big enough or the addiction wears off, I'm not sure. I believe it mainly has to do with the fact that after defeating Junior Bowser, you mostly have to re-do most levels again, but this time within a time limit to get the next shine. Up to 70 shines, it's a solid TEN, but after that, the fun is gone.
I would say an 8.7

Super fun game
Super Mario Sunshine is truly my all-time favorite game! Even if you just find the standard Mario 'ok', this game is really worth recommending! My cousin and I really wore out her GameCube playing this game. The plot is well put together and the different locations in this game are all equally fun and challenging. There are also a lot of 'secret levels' you can play. We really cursed a lot at some levels because they were..., umm, let's just say they were very challenging ;). In the end, we never completed all the levels and just defeated the boss as soon as we had enough stars, but even then, we spent a really long time on this game to reach the boss. So, it's not a game you finish quickly. You really spend quite some time on it (which only makes it more fun, of course). If I ever buy a GameCube, this is seriously the first game I'll purchase (this time to actually complete all the levels ;)). So, once again: a real recommendation!

In the levels Bianco Hills, Gelato Beach, and Pianta Village, you'll find a beehive somewhere. In Bianco Hills, the beehive hangs in one of the trees opposite the village. In Gelato Beach, the beehive hangs to the left under the wooden canopy. And in Pianta Village, the beehive hangs right across the bridge. Mario can't do anything on his own against these pesky bees. He needs to call upon his good friend Yoshi for help. So, in these levels, look for a Yoshi egg and bring the piece of fruit that Yoshi desires. In Bianco Hills, the fruit is scattered among the trees. In Gelato Beach, the fruit is inside the house on the right. And in Pianta Village, the fruit is all in a little tree at the back left. Once you've obtained the right piece of fruit for Yoshi, take Yoshi to the beehive. Have Yoshi spray juice at the beehive, causing it to fall and the bees to get quite angry at Mario. On his own, Mario would only be able to run away, but luckily, the omnivorous Yoshi is there. As you can tell, Yoshi must eat all the bees. Once Yoshi has consumed all the bees, a blue coin will appear.

How can I walk underwater in Delfino Plaza in Super Mario Sunshine?
SuperOldGamer

In Delfino Plaza, behind the Shine Gate in Super Mario Sunshine, there is a small pond (not at the entrance of Corona Mountain).

Use Fludd to dive (rocket (recommended) / turbo / hover nozzle) into that pond and dive against the wooden fence that lets the water flow out. At first, Mario will fall underwater a few times in the pond.

After trying a few times, Mario can fall through the fence and get hurt underwater. You can then calmly walk underwater. (Please note: Once Mario jumps out of the water or onto the beach from the water, the glitch will no longer work!)

This trick also works when Delfino Plaza is completely flooded with water. Dive against a tree trunk. Mario will then fall through it and you can also walk underwater.

How can I perform the Yoshi Glitch in Super Mario Sunshine?
MarioCube
9 jaar
Hey, you want to get to the island all the way back in Super Mario Sunshine. You can't swim because the pipe there is protected by lava. Who can help with that? Yoshi! But he can't swim either, so you'll have to jump on and off all the boats. It's easy!

What you need:
- Yoshi (Color doesn't matter)
- Turbo Nozzle

- First, grab Yoshi and head to the Shine Gate (The big gate with a Shine Sprite on top) on the right side (By the woman with the tall basket on the pole).
- Stand on that basket with Yoshi, and do a spin jump (Rotate the control stick in circles and then press A).
- In mid-air (Make sure to stay against the orange/yellow wall!), press X and jump off Yoshi. If you did it right, Yoshi will no longer be visible.
- Now go back to the starting point and grab the Turbo Nozzle.
- Head back, but this time into the water in front of the Shine Gate.
- There are wooden planks here, and somewhere in the corner, there's a box. (Do NOT break this box!) Activate the turbo and make sure you are under the wooden planks and under the box, then press A. If you did it right, you are now inside the box. (Tip: Press Y to check if you are inside the box.)
- Now walk towards the corner where there are 2 walls (Facing the Shine Gate, it's on the right) and then... you fall!
- You are now under the city! (Important: keep jumping or you will die!) Look for Yoshi. Jump on him and keep jumping again. (Make sure not to do the 3-jump combo, usually you'll appear too early)
- Walk towards the island or towards the water. NOW do the 3-jump combo! If done correctly, you'll end up at the bottom and you can walk underwater with Yoshi! (Once you're out, the glitch effect is gone, so be careful!)
- Walk towards the island (No need to jump anymore) and spray the pipe.
- Good luck with the glitch and the Red Coin Challenge (Which is quite challenging)

PS: In the Red Coin Challenge, you can backtrack by walking over the orange ledge. That way, you get another chance!

MarioCube

Have Yoshi eat a piece of fruit, but quickly jump off his back just before he eats it. If done correctly, Yoshi will now stand still with the piece of fruit floating in front of his head. Jump back on Yoshi's back and continue with your adventure.

When Yoshi is running low on juice, you can press B and Yoshi will still eat the piece of fruit that was floating in front of him earlier. The piece of fruit will suddenly reappear in front of you. This way, you can guide Yoshi further into a level and reach difficult spots more easily, without needing a piece of fruit nearby. This way, you can survive in an environment without fruit for twice as long.
