Do you want a Chaos Chao? Find out how here.
First, it must have been in a pink cocoon twice and lived a good life (lots of love).
Then, before it evolves, you must give it all 21 animals from Sonic Adventure 2 Battle once. Nothing more, nothing less.
When it evolves, it becomes a Chaos Chao (Angel, Devil, or Light, depending on which characters took care of it). Chaos Chao's are very useful for races and karate in Chao World. They never die and can reach level 99!

If you transfer your Chao from
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, you'll receive a free egg in your garden.
Keep doing this and you'll have plenty of eggs. Handy for selling eggshells.

In the Black Market at the Chao Kindergarten in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, you can buy various seeds and plant a tree with, for example, Square or Strong fruit. However, it's not explained how to plant them. Here's how you can do it.
First, your chao must have won a shovel in the Crab Pool chao race. It's also helpful to have a watering can from the Stump Valley race, but it's not necessary. Once you've bought a seed, you need to give it to a chao along with these items. Your chao will then find a good spot to plant it. Once your chao has found a spot, it will bury the seed. If your chao has also won a watering can, it will water the seed a bit. This helps the seed to start growing. Then, all you have to do is wait until the tree has grown a bit and starts bearing fruit. The tree will eventually die after some time.

Place these 2 Chao next to each other and they will mate. Now you have an egg!

Apart from the regular Chao Garden, there's also the Dark Garden in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. You unlock it by creating a Dark Chao. Here's how to do it: Method 1 is to mistreat it with a good character (Sonic, Tails, etc.), like constantly throwing it against the wall. You'll see it gradually turn black. Method 2 is to treat it kindly with bad characters (Shadow, Eggman, etc.), and it will still turn black. At some point, your Chao will cocoon itself in green, and when it emerges, it will be a Dark Chao. Upon leaving the Garden, you'll notice a new staircase leading down. Walk down the stairs, pass through the gate, and you'll enter the Dark Garden.

If you've just hatched a chao from its egg and keep petting it with a hero character (Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles), it will start to lighten in color. This means it's a chao that belongs to the hero side in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.
Alternatively, you can pet a chao with dark characters (Shadow, Eggman, or Rouge) instead of hero characters. In this case, the chao's color will gradually darken, indicating it's a devilish chao. There's not much difference besides the color change, but it's still fun to have different types of chao in your chao garden.
