One of the toughest and most enjoyable space shooters for the GameCube
Ikaruga! Congratulations if you already know the name of the game. This is one of the least known and hardest to find games for the GameCube, but believe me, the search is worth it. This space shooter is a port from the Sega Dreamcast, yet the graphics are still very good. The game features very smooth controls, which are necessary because lasers, missiles, and spaceships in 2 colors will be flying all around you. And when I say a lot of lasers, I mean a lot! This is one of THE toughest games I know. There are 5 levels and you have 3 lives. On easy mode, I manage to get past level 1 with just 1 life left, but it's terribly fun. Fortunately, there is also a practice mode that allows you to play a bit longer. You can play 2 levels, the first one with an unlimited number of lives and the second one with 3.
Ikaruga is not your typical space shooter; you can change colors, allowing you to pass through bullets of the same color without getting hit. Oh, I haven't mentioned the gigantic bosses that almost fill the entire screen yet! In this game, you'll have to defeat hordes of colored enemies, encounter numerous end bosses and smaller bosses, and above all, sweat a lot. In any case, Ikaruga is a must-have for the GameCube, not because it's so rare, but because it's truly a unique and especially incredibly difficult yet enjoyable game!
